LENT, DAY 5: THE FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

ADD: Intentional Time in Quiet Prayer

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.”
— Matthew 4:19–20 (NIV)

There was a gentlemen who set his alarm early every Sunday morning. Not because he loved waking up early, but because he loved how he felt after spending time with God before the day got busy. He learned that giving God his first moments took away the opportunity for everything else to compete for her attention.

Over time, that quiet space and quiet time became sacred.

In today’s Scripture, Jesus saw at ordinary fishermen and said two simple words: “Follow me.” No detailed plan. No step by step explanation. He simply invited them into relationship. And they responded immediately.

They left their nets (their livelihood, their comfort, their routine) and choose connection over control. They trusted that being close to Jesus was more valuable than staying where they were.

Following Jesus is not just about believing in Him. It is about building daily rhythms that keep us near Him. Prayer, worship, Scripture, and silence are not religious habits—they are relational practices.

They remind us who we belong to.

Sundays in Lent are not breaks from devotion. They are opportunities to breathe, to reset, and to reconnect. They remind us that this journey is not meant to be walked alone.

When we make time for God, we discover that He has been waiting for us all along.

  2. How can you create more consistent space for God in your daily routine?
