LENT, DAY 6: SEEN AND TOUCHED
FAST FROM: Impatience with God’s Process
“A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.”
— Matthew 8:2–3 (NIV)
The man with leprosy in today’s passage understood what it mean to experience isolation. Leprosy was not just a disease—it was a sentence. It meant separation from family, from worship, from community. It meant being labeled “unclean.” It meant being avoided. Unfortunately, so many people today experience similar treatment of avoidance and isolation.
But when the man with leprosy approached Jesus, something extraordinary happened.
Before Jesus healed him, He touched him. In a world that had pushed him away, Jesus moved closer. In a culture that feared contamination, Jesus extended compassion.
That touch restored more than skin. It restored dignity.
Sometimes we grow impatient because we want the outcome more than the encounter. We want the miracle more than the moment. But Jesus shows us that His presence is just as powerful as His power. If you have been feeling overlooked, delayed, or weary in the process — know this: God sees you. And when He moves, He moves with compassion.
He is willing.
