A WALK-THE-TALK CHURCH

St. John's United Methodist Church
The city is full of religious organizations doing good. But how many have a pastor that opened the doors to the homeless during Hurricane Rita and then stayed there? Pastor Rudy Rasmus did at St. John's Downtown. Through its Bread of Life ministry, a separate nonprofit, the church provides food, shelter, clothing, medical care, job training, counseling and an early education school for those children affected by HIV/AIDS. And that's just to name a few of its programs. The church also is trying to raise $4 million for transitional housing for the homeless. St. John's also offers some of the hippest sermons in the city from pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus.
