Destiny's Child Give Back

Trio donates funds for hometown youth center

With Destiny's Child on top of the pop world, the ladies have decided to give something back to their hometown. The band made a contribution of $500,000 to the downtown Houston church they attend.

On May 13th, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and the group's manager, Matthew Knowles, presented the donation to Pastor Rudy Rasmus of St. John's United Methodist Church. The church plans to use the donation to build a recreational facility for area youth that will feature, among other things, a full basketball court. Work on the facility is slated to begin in July and it is expected to open six months later. In honor of the girls' contribution the center will be named the Center for Youth at St. John's Downtown.

Meanwhile the video for Destiny's Child's next single, "Bootylicious" premieres on MTV on June 4th. And the soundtrack to the MTV TV movie starring Beyonce, Carmen: A Hip-Hopera, will be released June 12th. That disc features music by Knowles, Missy Elliott, Wyclef Jean, Da Brat and others.
